We’ve got NASA in our Hangar …

That’s right.  The Wanaka Airport is a buzz of excitement this week, as our notable tenants NASA together with the Columbia Scientific Balloon Facility, gear up to launch a test flight of their Scientific Research Balloon on Sunday 15 March.  The test flight will mark the first of it’s kind for New Zealand. All going to plan – and that means P.E.R.F.E.C.T. weather conditions, the team will launch the much anticipated 90m Diameter and 2,360kg unmanned balloon into the atmosphere at sometime before 11am on Sunday morning.

We’ve shared the essentials below.  The flight of the balloon can be tracked here and regular updates can be seen via the Queenstown Lakes District Council Facebook page.
